Westwood High School, located in Stewart Town, Trelawny is the sixth ranked school in academic passes, according to the latest EducateJamaica.org ranking just released. Westwood moved up one spot from 7th place last year. In doing so, they surpassed neighbours St Hilda’s Diocesan High from Brown’s Town, St Ann. Monday, May 23, saw 13 persons travel to Westwood High School for our first Labour Day project. The venture was funded by monetary, material and spiritual donations from the members of the Association around the world as well as our friends and families. This day would not have been a success without the commitment and contributions we received from everyone. Firstly I would like to thank all mentees and mentors of the 2015/2016 mentorship programme, you have all assisted in making the past year a success. The closing ceremony was held at the Westwood High School’s William Webb Auditorium on May 14, 2016 with most mentees and a few mentors in attendance. The ceremony was concise and piquant as the aim was to compensate the students for the cancelled mentorship trip. With over USD$1,200 and 30 gallons of paint donated by our sisters and friends, the WOGA Ja chapter pushed forward to purchase additional materials and complete planning of our first Labour day project at Westwood High. It is now a day before the big event and we are proud to say we are ready to work. We have at least 30 confirmed volunteers, including our families, friends, co-workers and WOGA sisters all geared up for this momentous day. Westwood High School was selected winner in two separate categories of the Jamaica Environment Trust’s (JET) Clean Coasts, Tourism Action Club Research Day and Competition, held recently at the Terra Nova hotel. Nine institutions were selected to participate in the competition.
