Monday, May 23, saw 13 persons travel to Westwood High School for our first Labour Day project. The venture was funded by monetary, material and spiritual donations from the members of the Association around the world as well as our friends and families. This day would not have been a success without the commitment and contributions we received from everyone.

- Paint Quad Classroom Exterior
- Treat and Paint PE Room
- Paint Princess Alice Bathroom
- Treat and Install Classroom Boards
- Re-enforce Floorboards on the Quad
- Paint Jacaranda Benches
Upon arrival at the school we were met by 2 parents, 2 additional volunteers, three teachers (thank you Miss Lawson, Miss Johnson & Miss Whyte) and cloudy skies. Although disappointed by the turn out and the possibility of rain the team was still energetic and eagerly accepted the challenge. Rather than start all projects at once and face the possibility of have multiple uncompleted projects we used larger teams to complete bigger tasks. An hour into work, the rain started… but the team did not stop.
By lunch time we had successfully completed the bus stop, zulu hut, floor boards on the quad, the sixth form classroom on the quad (Q4) and a few benches under the Jacaranda tree. After lunch, due to the intermittent rain, we decided to scrap the painting of the Jacaranda benches and the rear exterior Quad walls. But still determined the team moved on to other quad classrooms and started the PE room. By the sound of the supper bell we had successfully completed two additional quad classrooms and the PE room.
Yes, we were exhausted, but still happy, more so proud of all we had accomplished, regardless of the rain and our numbers. The Principal assured us that she would get a painter to assist with the rear exterior Quad walls on another day and a facilities person to install the classroom boards, while Miss Lawson committed to having the benches painted on a Saturday that had more favourable conditions. But true to our word we will see this project through to completion, as such we are planning another work day to finish what we started.
Activities left to complete include:
- Paint Quad Classroom Exterior
- Paint Princess Alice Bathroom
- Paint Jacaranda Benches
Just in case you missed this wonderful adventure, we invite you to sign up for the upcoming workday, to be announced at our next General Meeting (June 4, 2016).
Once again, thanks to all those who contributed financially, spiritually, physically even emotionally we are grateful for your hard work.

IDEAS
PHYSICAL PRESENCE AT eg. GRADUATION
VOLUNTEERING
FUNDRAISING
to name a few.
There is no mistaking the fact that help is needed, as in every school & situation in life.
Just step out of our boxes, & OFFER!!

I totally agree with that Cheryl. Even a simple thing as sharing information. If we arent doing something then I am going to take a page out of COBA and say this… WE ARE A PART OF THE PROBLEM.
On a positive note this was a job well done by the team, physicall, monetary or otherwise.
A place that is deep in my heart. So happy that so much could have been accomplished.
